Hazel Brook update

Notes from a recent meeting of the ‘Hazel Brook group’

Action plan from last meeting :-
- organise a walk of the course of the Hazel Brook to locate and record the location of any obvious outlets discharging into the brook that might be a problem
- organise sampling from the Brook in conjunction with UWE Environmental Science students
Progress to date :-
- Bristol City Council Living Rivers Project no longer run guided river walks but have provided (very basic) map used by them previously.
- BCC have provided historical water quality sampling data (from sampling site just north of the ford) from 1995 for reference.
- A date for sampling and decisions on sampling sites etc will be arranged with UWE Environmental Science students (contact Dr Lorenzo Giusti, as soon as possible.
- Ideally the Brook walk will take place in conjunction with the sampling. If this is not possible then we will arrange a walk later in the spring.
- Mr Peter Martin has offered to undertake a botanical survey of the brook (including mosses indicative of water quality) over the spring/summer. He has some historical data from 10-15 years ago which will be useful for comparison.
- Martin Harris, Blaise Estate manager, is to provide us with a copy of a report and action plan for the Brook within the grounds of the estate.
